Comprehensive diagnosis of primary hyperaldosteronism

A salt load test is performed at the FRC FTM clinic (Saline Infusion Test) – specialized functional research, used to confirm primary hyperaldosteronism and assess the activity of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.

Primary hyperaldosteronism is one of the most common endocrine causes of secondary arterial hypertension. The disease is characterized by excessive production of aldosterone by the adrenal glands., which leads to sodium and water retention, decreased potassium levels and persistently increased blood pressure. In some cases, the pathology may occur without severe hypokalemia, which makes it difficult to diagnose it in a timely manner.

A salt load test is a confirmatory test and is performed after suspicious changes are identified during initial screening. (increased aldosterone/renin ratio). The method is based on the physiological principle: Normally, the administration of isotonic sodium chloride solution suppresses the secretion of aldosterone. With autonomous hyperproduction of the hormone (characteristic of primary hyperaldosteronism) suppression does not occur or is not expressed enough.

The study determines the level of renin and aldosterone in the blood before and after a controlled salt load, which allows you to objectively assess the reaction of the hormonal system and confirm or exclude the diagnosis.

Who is the study for?:

  • persistent arterial hypertension
  • resistant hypertension (upon admission 3 and more drugs)
  • combination of hypertension and hypokalemia
  • elevated aldosterone levels on screening
  • suspected adrenal pathology
  • incidentally discovered adrenal masses

Who can direct:

  • endocrinologist
  • therapist
  • cardiologist
  • nephrologist
  • GP

How does the procedure work?:

  1. The patient is in a supine position.
  2. Blood is drawn for renin and aldosterone.
  3. Infusion in progress 0,9% NaCl volume 2000 ml for 4 hours.
  4. Repeated blood sampling is performed.
  5. Blood pressure and patient's condition are monitored.

Study duration: approx. 4 hours.

What's included in the price:

  • performing a salt load test
  • infusion 2000 Jr 0,9% NaCl
  • double blood sampling
  • laboratory determination of renin and aldosterone (T0 and T4)
  • medical supervision

The cost of a comprehensive study is 3500 rubles.

Before carrying out, preliminary preparation and possible correction of drug therapy are required.. Self-discontinuation of drugs is not allowed.

Registration is carried out by calling the call center 8 (800) 222-60-86. Experts check availability of directions, inform about preparations and agree on the date of the study.
