But that you may see from whence all this error is born of those who accuse pleasure and praise pain, I will open the whole matter, and I will explain those very things which were said by that discoverer of truth and, as it were, the architect of a happy life. For no one loves the pleasure itself, who loves the pain itself because it is pain, will be followed, he wants to get, but because such times do not never occur that he seeks some great pleasure with labor and pain.
To come to the smallest details, But who of us has taken up any exercise of the body, or can justly criticize him who wants to be in that pleasure which results in no trouble, or he who shuns that pain by which no pleasure is born!
