Research at the KSB laboratory is aimed at studying the modification of the functional activity of neural systems during the development of pathological conditions, in particular, psychoneurological pathology (ischemic brain lesions, affective disorders, stress-induced disorders); fMRI and EEG detection – markers and the search for methods for correcting these types of pathologies using biofeedback and virtual reality technologies.

Research methods – neurofeedback, psychophysiological monitoring, fMRI-EEG monitoring of brain activity, fMRI – biomanagement.

results – studies of central neurodynamics were conducted based on synergistic fMRI-EEG mapping of the human brain when performing cognitive operations of varying degrees of complexity in an adaptive feedback loop
A treatment and rehabilitation technology for interactive neurotherapy of cerebral infarction has been created, first clinical results obtained.
EEG patterns determined, corresponding BOLD activation of motor areas and areas, responsible for memory and attention, in healthy people and patients with consequences of stroke, based on them, neurofeedback algorithms were developed using personalized EEG profiles of patients
Strategies of behavior and psychophysiological reactions of a person were studied under simulated stress load/conditions of uncertainty using immersive virtual reality with adaptive feedback on physiological functions.
The formation of skills for self-regulation of psychophysiological functions is accompanied by activation of sensory and higher integrative structures of the cortex and is not limited to brain regions, traditionally associated with cognitive actions and operations; the success of correcting excessive stress reactions depends on comprehensive work with the cognitive and emotional spheres.

Planned results for 2024-2025 years:

  • An array of neurophysiological data will be collected and summarized, describing functional relationships between cortical and subcortical motor areas (as well as with areas and systems, traditionally not related to motor), occurring after a stroke with relatively localized impairment of manual motor skills and changing during rehabilitation. Restructuring of the EEG pattern will be described, fMRI-EEG interactions in the process of rehabilitation of motor disorders are considered, taking into account laterality and a number of other clinical factors.
  • Psychophysiological technology will be developed (medical technology) diagnostics, prevention and correction of stress-induced disorders using models of uncertainty and adaptive feedback, based on virtual environment simulation, initiating the development of emotional stress, controlled by physiological parameters, taking into account the neurophysiological mechanisms of regulation of autonomic indicators of stress.

Also in the laboratory, experimental and clinical work is being carried out to individualize the treatment and rehabilitation load of patients with cerebrovascular pathology using adaptive multiparametric biofeedback.
The essence of technology – in objectifying the current state of the patient’s cardiovascular system before, during and after biofeedback training. For this purpose, ECG signals are monitored. photoplethysmograms. and temperature – physiological parameters, responsive to change (deterioration) patient status. Objective control allows you to document the rehabilitation process in real time.
AT 2022 year, a new medical technology was created “Method for monitoring medical and rehabilitation load using monitoring of objective physiological indicators in real time”, which is implemented in the Clinic of the FRC FTM.

In recent 10 years during the research work “Study of psychophysiological patterns of formation of the skill of conscious self-regulation of involuntary functions in the biofeedback mode (on the model of training for optimal functioning for people in hazardous professions and therapeutic and rehabilitation biofeedback for patients with psychosomatic pathology and movement disorders)», “Optimal functioning in the biofeedback paradigm and the concept of “brain-computer-interface”, – the main physiological “targets” have been identified, modification of which by means and methods of biocontrol leads to sustainable changes in physiological parameters, adequate dynamics of behavioral markers, positive clinical results.
Beginning with 2017 Since 2009, studies have been conducted on central neurodynamics based on synergistic fMRI-EEG mapping of the human brain when performing cognitive operations of varying degrees of complexity in an adaptive feedback loop, where the “target” of cognitive (strong-willed, arbitrary) control is a BOLD phenomenon, separately/together with frequency ranges of electrical activity of the brain in healthy individuals.
