As a result of the studies, signaling pathways were identified for the first time, specifically activating the nuclear receptor CAR and its target genes. Using the structure approach: activity revealed the most effective activators of the studied receptor. The results were published in highly ranked international journals. Led by L.F.. Gulyaeva studied the post-transcriptional regulation of the activity of cytochrome P450 isoforms and the role of miRNAs in its induction by various xenobiotics.. MicroRNAs were selected using bioinformatics approaches, able to regulate CYP1A/2B mRNA, and obtained the first experimental evidence of changes in the expression of selected miRNAs and their target genes under the influence of xenobiotics-inducers of CYP. In the field of studying the regulation of gene expression under the action of xenobiotics, these works were pioneering..

In the last decade, Lyudmila Fedorovna has been engaged in molecular genetic research of female oncological diseases (breast cancer, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer), and non-small cell lung cancer. These works are carried out in collaboration with leading oncologists. Novosibirsk. For the first time in the Siberian region, the genetic polymorphism of estrogen metabolism enzymes for these diseases was studied and combinations of genes were identified, determining the risk of developing the disease.

Gulyaeva L.F. is a recognized specialist in the field of research into the epigenetic aspects of carcinogenesis with an emphasis on the role of miRNAs. These studies were supported by 3 RSF grants. Target genes identified using microRNAs have opened up opportunities for the identification of new molecular markers for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer of the female reproductive organs and lung cancer.
