The appearance of the Research Institute of Biochemistry in the structure of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Medical Sciences was not accidental. It was prepared by the whole course of events., related to the formation of medical academic science in the East of the country. Already in 1971. as part of the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (IKEM SO AMS USSR) the laboratory of biochemistry, on the basis of which fundamental research was carried out on human adaptation to the conditions of Siberia and the Asian North. Decree of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR dated 13 August 1979. No. 778 "On the further development of medical science in the regions of Siberia and the Far East" in the SO AMS of the USSR, it was provided for the opening of the Institute of Biochemistry. However, the first Institute of Biochemistry in Siberia appeared only 10 years later, when the laboratory of biochemistry was transformed into the department of biochemistry of IKEM SB AMS of the USSR. During this period, the department already had the necessary material and technical base, and a large professional team of scientists worked.

At a meeting of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences 6 April 1988. the issue "On the development of the main directions of the field of biochemistry in the Siberian branch of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences in the light of the resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 778" was considered. A resolution was adopted to organize the Institute of Biochemistry in Novosibirsk,
21 September 1988. at a meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, it was decided to organize the Institute of Biochemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in. Novosibirsk, protocol #28-3.
